Do you believe sustainability is the business opportunity of the twenty-first century and are you obsessed with unlocking that opportunity to deliver business and social impact? Would you relish the opportunity to do that work in a fast growing, creative environment with an incredible roster of visionary clients? Read on.

We are recruiting for a Sustainability Strategy Director to help build our strategy practice in the US.

Futerra is a change agency – a hybrid strategy consultancy and creative agency. We imagine better, brighter ways of doing things and then work with people who can make them happen. And we’re driven by our mission to make sustainable development so desirable it becomes normal. We believe sustainability is a billion-dollar opportunity and we work with the world’s leading brands to find and unlock that opportunity through smart strategy and powerful creative.

This role is all about helping companies set big, bold sustainability visions for the change they want to lead and developing the roadmap to deliver it. Through our work we are helping to build the next wave of sustainability leaders and are looking for an experienced sustainability professional who has driven change and impact in their career, but is hungry to deliver so much more.

The ideal candidate will be able to work at both macro and micro levels, combining visionary thinking about the role of business in a sustainable future with practical experience driving this kind of change through large organizations – whether as a consultant or in-house. We want to know you can think big but also have a track record of developing, designing, presenting and even delivering strategies that resulted in quantifiable business and sustainability outcomes.

You define sustainability in its broadest sense and are familiar with cutting edge thinking and practice across a broad spectrum of issues: from climate justice and the circular economy to women’s empowerment and human rights.

You understand how marketing and communications professionals as well as CFOs and heads of investor relations think, what motivates them and how we can help our clients to engage these important stakeholders.

You’ll also need to help nurture and win new business and lead major client engagements. We’ll want to hear about your track record in doing both.

This is about more than mastery of wide range of sustainability issues; we pride ourselves on developing strategies that are not bolted on but built in to the heart of the business so a strong business background is important. We’ll want you to build a business case for our recommendations and support our C-level clients in selling into their C-Suite and their board.

You will have lots of experience and have developed skills in the following sustainability strategy disciplines:

  • Sustainability vision and strategy development
  • Goal-setting and KPI development
  • Business model and business case development
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • CSR and sustainability disclosure and transparency

Your background could be consultancy or client-side – a mix is a definite plus. We are looking for a candidate with 10+ years experience. US experience is an absolute must for this role.

We need you to be a wonk but with high EQ AND a strong business instinct. Since our US business is growing fast, you’ll need an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. You’ll oversee a talented and hungry team of strategists so we want to know you can nurture talent and create a learning environment. You’ll report to the VP of Strategy for North America and partner with the directors leading our creative and planning disciplines, ensure we are bringing the right combination of Logic and Magic to all of our projects.

As a Futerran, you’ll:

  • Bring a spirit of entrepreneurialism, joy and inspiration to do  the work
  • Have the ability/desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Bring a ‘can-do’ attitude and a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done well
  • Be switched on and happy to contribute ideas in brainstorms, meetings, scrums, and company away days
  • Help change the world

If this sounds like you, please submit your resume, covering letter and a critique of a sustainability strategy you admire and why to:
